Study Guide

The road is dangerous for everyone (v 30-33).

• Some journey relatively unscathed.
• Some hit more bumps—maybe it’s their fault; maybe it’s not.

Distractions can prevent us from showing compassion (v 31-32).

• Judgment…It’s his own fault for getting robbed and beaten!
• Fear…I could be caught in this, too!
• Busyness…Passing people to get to a pile.
• The size of the problem…I won’t even start to help because if I do I’ll be overwhelmed.

Neighbors notice and respond (v 33-35).

• He saw and had compassion
• His response was active

No distinctions are allowed (v 36-37).

• No non-neighbors; no us/them, we/they classifications

• We are to be neighbors to any/everyone we encounter
• To whom are you a neighbor?

Parting Thought:

The same love that God has lavished upon us must flow from within us to extend the heart of Jesus to the least of these. We have been called to be the neighbor of everyone we encounter, recognizing that the road is dangerous, resisting distractions, refusing to embrace distinctions and consciously choosing to notice and respond with compassion. Let the neighbor be you!
