Sermon Title: Courage for the Call

Sermon Text: Joshua 1

How are you doing in the face of the uncertainties and challenges of life?

New Series begins today - Finding courage through the challenges of life – Lessons from the book of Joshua

A little background and context...

God calls you to be strong and courageous in the face of new opportunities or challenges (Joshua 1:1-9).

Khaw-zak” = to be strong, to prevail, to be courageous and resolute

Aw-mats” = to be strong, courageous, alert and persistent

What’s God calling you to do?  Where is he calling you to go?  How is he calling you to move into what he has next for you?

God calls you to be confident that you will thrive because he is leading you and will be with you (Joshua 1:5).

Leave = God will never relax; he’ll never let you sink or drop down.

Forsake = He’ll never desert you; he’ll never quit or abandon you.

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  So, I say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?” -Hebrews 13:5

Jesus said, “...when he, The Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.  ... He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.”- John 16:13-14.

“We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.”  -1 John 4:13

Full reliance on God is the key to prevailing in the opportunities and challenges God calls you to.

What does this call for full reliance look like for us today?

It’s not perfection...its dependence!

You say: I’m scared.  I’m uncertain.  I’m nervous.

God says: Be strong and very courageous as you rely on me, knowing that I will never leave you or forsake you.
